The Analytical Core Facility will conduct a basic operation training of Image J on 14th of May, 2025.
Image J/FIJI is a Java based public image processing software developed by NIH, which can run on various platforms such as Microsoft Windows, Mac OS, Mac OS X, Linux, and Sharp Zaurus. It is an open source software that supports user-defined plugins and macros. This software is capable of displaying, editing, analyzing, processing, saving, and printing 8-bit, 16 bit, and 32-bit images, and supports various formats such as TIFF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, BMP, etc. Image J supports image stack functionality, which stacks multiple images in a multi-threaded manner within a window for parallel processing. In addition to basic image operations such as scaling, rotating, twisting, and smoothing, Image J can also perform region and pixel statistics, spacing, angle calculations, create bar charts and section maps, and perform Fourier transform on images. Image J comes with an editor and imports a Java compiler, allowing users to directly process images based on Image J.
The software is free and open source. You can download it from NIH-Image J website.
