On September 8, 2009, Prof. Vincent Deubel of Institut Pasteur of Shanghai received a medal and certificate of Shanghai Magnolia Silver Award from Mr. Li Mingjun, the Director General of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Foreign Affairs. The Shanghai Magnolia Award was set up in 2005 in recognition of foreigners working in Shanghai for their outstanding contribution to the economic construction and social development of Shanghai. As one of the 60 recipients of this award in 2009, Prof. Deubel has made very important contribution to the public health of Shanghai as Director General of Institut Pasteur of Shanghai during 2004 to 2009. A full emotion was expressed in his speech of award. “Five years ago, I discovered Shanghai, an ambitious city opened to the world. 2004 was the year of France in China with magnificent celebrations of the Sino-French cooperation. The Institut Pasteur of Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences was then launched to develop a new model of international cooperation for training and research devoted to emerging diseases. Since then, I have listened, pictured, and engaged myself each minute with sincerity to prioritize the development of biomedical research for a safer life in Shanghai. I offered 5 years of my life to Shanghai, and Shanghai gave me more anchored in my heart.”
