Institut Pasteur of Shanghai-Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPS-CAS) held its second annual academic meeting in Suzhou on Feb 23-25. A total of over 100 attendees including IPS directors, principal investigators, administrative team and graduate students joined the meeting.
Distinguished guests from abroad, CAS and collaborative institutes were invited to the three-day meeting.
Prof. SUN Bing, Co-director of IPS, delivered information of the 2012 CAS annual meeting, gave a summary report on the major achievements of IPS in 2011 and the priorities in 2012. Prof. Ralf Altmeyer, Director General of IPS, presented progress of institute’s international collaboration, business development and Advance BioChina.
Two members of the Scientific Advisory Board of IPS,Prof. CAO Xuetao, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Prof. LIU Yongjun, Vice-President and Chief Scientific Officer of Baylor Research Institute, presented two keynote speeches. Prof. Paul Zhou and Prof. LAN Ke presented their work as major achievements of IPS scientific research. Four new PIs who recently joined the IPS family gave their perspective reports. Fourteen graduate students’ presentations covered various fields in virology, immunology and vaccinology. All the speeches attracted heated discussion. The poster session at night also drew huge attention. All attendees participated the voting for the “Excellent Poster Award” and “Excellent Presentation Award”. Five winners came out for each award.
Dr. LIU Jie, Director of Comprehensive Planning Division, Life Science Bureau of CAS, congratulated the progresses IPS achieved during the last year. He expressed his sincere wishes for IPS to make its focus further on major scientific output, and also for its future developments.
The annual academic meeting has become an important part of scientific activities in IPS. Through the joint efforts of the whole institute, IPS will become more prosperous in 2012!
