On April 24th, Institut Pasteur of Shanghai – Chinese Academy of Sciences (IPS) held the Annual Strategic Symposium of year 2018 to summarize the progress of implementation of the "133" Strategic Planning and the key points of work in 2018, to analyze the new situation and new tasks of the development of the institute focused on the scientific layout, the discipline development and platform development, etc..
Mr. Shen Yi, Division Chief of Life Science Division of the Bureau of Frontier Sciences and Education-CAS attended the symposium. He gave the constructive opinions and suggestions on the discipline layout and development planning of IPS combined the relevant work experience on the discipline development and scientific research development planning formulated by the Life Sciences Fields of CAS and the National Essential Basic Scientific and Technological Tasks. IPS shall follow closely the principle of “Three Orientations” of CAS in the new period and solidly implement the CAS “Pioneer Action” plan. To the plan of the scientific research layout, especially the research layout planning for the prevention and control of infectious diseases, it is necessary to combine the basic research with the country's major needs through the organizational methods such as the free exploration, the working team breakthroughs and the cross-domain cooperation. The advantages and characteristics of the disciplines shall be created as a unique feat for IPS.
Prof. Qin Cheng-Feng - Director of the Virus Department of the Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology of Academy of Military Medical Sciences, Prof. Cui Jie - Researcher of Wuhan Institute of Virology-CAS, Prof. Hou Bai-Dong – Researcher of the Institute of Biophysics-CAS and some relevant experts and scholars were also invited to give special reports and share the latest research progress in related fields to expand the perspective of academic research, build the communication platform, and stimulate vitality of scientific research innovation.
Prof. Tang Hong, Director General of IPS deployed the key points of the work plan in 2018 at the meeting. The report on six aspects with a total of 21 items includes: the promoting comprehensive and strict governance of the Party, the technological innovation layout, the technical support and collaborative innovation platform construction, the transformation of achievements, the talent recruitment, the optimization of human resource management, the graduate education, the promotion of refined international cooperation, the strengthen of the financial and treasury support ability, the system construction, the information publicity, the archives, the security, the infrastructure, and logistics management. The annual work goals and specific measures are clearly defined and proposed.
This symposium was held at the critical moment when Xi Jinping’s socialist ideology with Chinese characteristics, the spirit of the Nineteenth Congress and the deepened “Pioneer Action” plan are fully implemented in CAS. It was held at the key moment when IPS actively promotes the construction of Shanghai Science and Innovation Center. It is of great significance to further focus on the key issues of the Institute's scientific and technological innovation and the development of reforms, to build and unify the consensus, and to clarify the future direction of the Institute.
The key scientific research and management personnel nearly 50 members of the institute attended the symposium.
