On October 14, Cell Press LabLinks workshop on "Microbiome, Inflammation and Immunity" was held in Shanghai, which was co-organized by the Shanghai Institute of Immunity and Infection (SIII) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Cell Press, Shanghai Society for Microbiology and Shanghai Society of Cell Biology. Ten senior microbiologists, immunologists, epidemiologists and clinicians were invited to give keynote speeches to share their research progress in the areas of virus and bacterial infection, as well as host-microbe interactions, which attracted nearly 200 experts, scholars and researchers.
At the opening ceremony, Dr. WU Feijie - Editor of Cell Reports, Dr. LIU Dongping - Director of Division of S&T Development and Cooperation at SIII, and Dr. YUAN Zhenghong - President of Shanghai Society for Microbiology, respectively, delivered welcoming speeches on behalf of the organizers, introduced their institutions, and expressed sincere welcome and gratitude to the participants. Dr. MENG Guangxun, Dr. ZHONG Jin and Dr. CHAO Yanjie at SIII hosted the seminar in different sessions.
In academic presentation session, based on their research fields, the speakers and the attendees had a warm and in-depth discussion, which resulted in new research perspectives.
Prof. JIANG Shibo from School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University shared the strategy and latest progress of developing pan-β-CoVs vaccines. Prof. ZHOU Xi from Wuhan Institute of Virology of CAS reported antiviral RNAi immunity from basic to translational research. Prof. WANG Hongyan from Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science of CAS introduced the research work of Macrophage, Metabolism and Pathogen Infection, and Prof. YU Qiujing from Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital and University of Electronic Science and Technology of China shared research findings on the role of one-carbon metabolism in macrophage-mediated inflammation, respectively.
Prof. YAN Huimin from Shanghai Public Heath Clinical Center, Fudan University introduced the relationship between TLR5 pathway and mucosal immunity. Focusing on gut microbiota, Prof. MENG Guangxun at SIII shared the impact of the NLRP3 inflammasome and the functional effect on mucosal homeostasis, and Prof. ZHU Lixin from Sun Yat-sen University revealed that GBP5 drives intestinal inflammation through STAT1 activity.
Prof. WEI Bin from Shanghai University reported the research findings on relationship between MLV-based therapeutic strategies and alleviating infection-induced neurological damage. Prof. YU Hongjie from Fudan University introduced to generate antibody landscapes after birth, virus natural infection, or vaccination by using sero-epidemiological studies. And Prof. JIU Yaming at SIII shared the research that obligate pathogens hijack host cytoskeleton to construct replication niches.
In the workshop, Dr.YU Sha, Editor of Cell Reports, introduced the development history of Cell Press, and Dr. SUN Yongmei, Editor of iScience, shared the tips for how to publish research achievements in Cell Press journals, which brought positive help to all attendees.
This workshop strengthened communications, broadened research ideas for the researchers, and helped to promote interaction and cooperation among the peers in the fields of microbiome, inflammation and immunity.
